14X-Day Official Report Now on SubSITE (but growing)

This version has two main photo sections besides the text report:

1) Photos by Stang-Doe, now carefully identified in file names and selected in order by day, several with MP3 soundtracks -- but only from Wednesday night, the only jam we had to work from until today, and the Hour of Slack first part from Thursday. More audio (plus videos) will be added as we sort through the various choices of recordings).

2) Photos by various other SubGenii, most of them collected fom Facebook and thus mostly chronologically random due to FB's renaming of photo files. I went to exactly as much trouble to make sideways shots upright as the original posters did. I did however remove the shots that were so amateurish that there was no image at all, and those so out of focus that they might as well have been shot and posted by a Pink. Ordinary photos of ordinary-looking people eating at picnic tables were likewise removed (unless their timing was dramatic.)

3) Lists of more 14X-Day stashes of photos, audio, YouTubes.

What the report lacks is the gigabytes we will cull from the 23 hours of DV video, as well as most of the audio. That material will take literally weeks to sort through for Hour of Slack and YouTube use.

Our OrthoStangian Convox for My Sib's Son's Perelithian Liaison

Around May 26, after seeing the works of Saunt M. C. Escher at the Akronian Math, Primate Wei and myself were Vocoed for a Convox of OrthoStangians for the Aut of Perelithian Liaison of the son of my sib, Anti-C!, and a Pruittessian suur. Because we had to leave the Slackianist Concent and venture extramuros, we obtained a new cartabla for our fetch.

Along the way we stayed at various small but famed maths, using a jeejaw to communicate with our fraas and suurs at each to alert them to our approach. Travelling extramuros, one is forced to break the Discipline, and I admit that we used not only jeejaws but syntactic devices at some inns sometimes even with the help of local Itas.

The roads were good and our fetch dependable, and much of the journey was pleasurable, for we passed many a productive fuel tree and page tree orchard. We often had to use super-Allswell and Jumpweed for trade, and to prevent its discovery by the agents of the Saecular powers (and attendant wasted hours before courts of dour local Panjandrums) we hid the Allswell and Jumpweed in the back of the fetch. Also, to keep the Extras from recognizing us as Avout, we traveled sans belt, chord or sphere, wearing sline's clothing and hiding our hair beneath headgear bearing kinagrams of sports teams.

Our first stop was at the Wisterian Concent for Dialogs both Suvian and Periklynian with the Hierarchs there, concerning multitudinous details regarding the 14th Apert of X-Day. Fellow OrthoSubGenians at this Convox included Suur Pisces, Suur Joy, Fraa Suds and Fraa Nigel.

At the nearby Spencerian suvin of the Centenarians Pater and Petal Nostril, we enjoyed a traditional Messal, as elaborate as any of legend for which this Clench is known.

At the Concent of Saunt Sophie, Fraa Frop and Suur Decadence presented us with a book of specfic entitled "Anathem" by the pre-Reconsititution writer Neal Stephenson. Fraa Frop later showed a speely about uncommonly young Vlor Saunts entitled "Kick Ass," which left an impression on Warden Fendant Stang.

The agrarian math of Pa Tilles likewise proved an instructive and most enjoyable hostel. Pa Tilles presented us with the Challenge of the Vanishing Calf, a calca none has yet to solve.

While conducting Dialogs with Saunt Byron Werner and Saunt Sterno in the Arkansanian Concent, new Dobbsharkian calcas involving more than one solution were developed. *

In the Concent of the OrthoStangians we stayed with the Thousander known as Pa Pappy, and prepared for the Aut of Perelithian Liaison of my fid. There was some suspense over this Aut, as my sib's former Perelithian partner, who had been rejected from the mathic world in the Aut of Anathem, nonetheless returned from a sline prison to the OrthoStangian concent for the ceremony. Fraa Frop, my sibs and I feared that he would go Hundreder during the Aut, and we were prepared to employ vlor against him. Luckily his spinal clamp prevented violence, and to his credit he left immediately upon the completion of the Aut.

We are now back inside the gates of the Northern OrthoStangian Concent, replete with many memories, upsights, and, I must confess, a few treasured if illicit speely recordings that later generations might hopefully use in their researches centuries hence.

Dozens of Newly Old SubGenius Videos Have Migrated from Google Video to YouTube

Google Video was around before YouTube, and allowed members to load in movies of any length, so I loaded it with my older films, some of the SubG music videos from a few years back, and whole devival rants and Amino Acids concerts. My YouTube account only held the shorter and more recent items for the most part. Others took my Googles and put them on their YouTubes and got thousands of views, especially with my old 16mm films.

Google first announced they were just going to erase everything on April 29. Then they announced they had reconsidered (i.e. were threatened with a class action lawsuit, probably), and now are planning to "auto-migrate" everything over to YouTube accounts.

I decided to look into it, and found that a) I don't trust them to auto-anything and b) it's really easy to do it yourself and doesn't take much time per video. So, I moved a couple of dozen items over there. I have a couple dozen more to do yet, but they're mostly long, like the Baltimore 2007 devival, whole Amino Acids concerts, the old Club No video from 1991, that kind of thing, and in some cases the compression is lousy.

BUT! There's a lot of "new" stuff now on YouTube, which younger or newer SubGenii might never have been aware of at all.

Up at the very top it says ALL, UPLOADS and FAVORITES. Click on UPLOADS and you'll see the 12 "faves" I picked (and which you may well have seen before, as they've had thousands of YouTube views on other people's channels) but if you scroll down you'll see many more in the descending chronological order in which they were uploaded, with most recent first.

At the bottom of the box under the 3rd video it says "see all." (Not "see all" under favorites - those are videos by others that I like.)

The box gets bigger and you SHOULD see them in most-recent order. If the list starts with "Attention Spazzblister," that's the oldest (or the first thing I put on YouTube, rather), so toggle "Date Added" to get the most recent uploads, which starts with my 40-minute underground film from 1973, "Let's Visit the World of the Future."

MOST of the videos range from 30 seconds to about 6 minutes.

OOOPS! Correction to earlier post re: Universal Life Church ordainment

I recently published a blog suggesting that the Universal Life Church had moved and was now in Seattle, and gave a new website to contact (since ULC is more well known in many states than SubGenius). I was misinformed. I had been getting occasional complaints from SubG ministers that they'd gotten no response to the postcards that come with SubGenius packs, which they mail to Modesto, California for a secondary ordination. I think that it's just that the ULC staff in Modesto was swamped.

The ULC Monastery in Seattle is NOT the original ULC, but a splinter group that is no longer authorized by the true ULC. I have been in touch with the original ULC in Modesto since my earlier announcement and understand things a little better. They have modernized their ordainment process and now accept ordainment requests electronically. But they still prefer the request in writing, such as the postcard we include in our Ordainment Package.

So, to get yourself ordained (above and beyond your perfectly good SubGenius ordination), send in your ULC request postcard, and/or go to the true original ULC website:

and fill out their online form under the "Ordination" window. THIS IS FREE, although they accept donations. You can also buy nice printed wallet cards and certificates from them for $5 to $10, but those are not necessary. The important thing is that your name be registered with ULC. Same goes for SubGenius ordinations. If questioned by a city or state official you can always request a letter of credentials from us or ULC.

2011 UPDATE to ULC ordination instructions

When you purchase a SubGenius Membership and Ordination, that little card that comes with the package (which you fill out yourself) is all you need to perform weddings almost everywhere we know of in the U.S.A. and, evidently, most other countries. You don't need any more documentation from us. We ask that you send in the little confirmation postcard to us mainly because so many of our Memberships are bought as gifts for others and we want to make sure we have the right person on record.

I, Stang, and countless other SubGenius ministers, have performed dozens of marriages in many states. Every now and then a city might require a one-time fee of like $15 to be registered in that particular city. (This happened to me recently after a New York City wedding but I had no trouble getting "certified" once I paid the city's fee and sent a copy of my SubG ordination card.)

We have offered the Universal Life Church ordainment as a kind of back-up, because they were better known than we are. According to their old rules, any ULC minister (such as myself) could ordain new ULC ministers. They have evidently changed this recently, and they also changed addresses and methods. For one thing they seem to have moved from Modesto, CA to Seattle:

This is still free, although they now (not unreasonably) charge to mail you the certificate ($7), a plastic ID card ($12, much fancier than the one I got in 1979) or even a big $50 package.

Hmmm. Maybe we need to update our ordainment package too.

To repeat: You are already a SubGenius minister and your card proves it. (You can also request an official letter from me if some picky state demands such things.) The ULC ordination is a bonus you can choose or not.

If your SubG package came with a postcard addressed to ULC in California, you can toss that, and just register with them online if you wish.

13X-Day Drill, Starwood 30 Survived; Backed-Up Orders Filled

We are back in the SubGenius Foundation offices at the Slackermansion in Cleveland Heights, after two weeklong outdoor festivals in a row, plus days of packing and unpacking. Full reports on X-Day 13 and Starwood 30 will follow, but we want our beloved customers to know that all of the orders for books, ordainments, etc. that came in since June 29 have now been filled and the products are in the mail.

13X-Day is being called "the best X-Day Drill yet" by most of the attendees. Obviously, had the Xist saucers come and the Rupture happened, it would have been much better, but we're beginning to suspect that "Bob's" point may be that X-Day could happen AT ANY TIME - so you had better get Slack now. I know that I am happy with the hours of recordings I brought home, thanks to the great bands and ranters, and to Pater Nostril, who recorded it all. I will probably be combing through all that audio for the next ten Hours of Slack.

The Starwood Festival's 30th anniversary event was held at a new site, Wisteria, that is even prettier than Brushwood, and while attendance was down (as expected, considering the blow Starwood was dealt by its new competition), the event went beautifully. People are describing it as the most fun Starwood in several years. The devival, along with some great music by Rev. Phat Man Dee and others, will be heard on Hour of Slack in due time and possibly in multiple installments. We won't be posting quite as many photos from Starwood as from X-Day, because there was a lot more nudity (and more strangers and innocent bystanders).

We'll announce the links as soon as our big reports and photo galleries are done. Meanwhile, those who ordered SubGenius goods between June 29 and July 14 should be seeing the swag in their mailboxes by July 17 (or maybe a few days later for the overseas customers).

It might take a while to turn the script into a Hollywood-style movie, but in the meantime it should make for a damn good puppet show. X-DAY THE 13th

The world ends July 5 at 7 a.m. That's why as many SubGeniuses as possible will gather at Brushwood Folklore Center in New York starting June 30, to party appropriately. There have been 14 X-Day Drills before this ultimate event, so we've had lots of practice. THE ALT.SLACK PROBLEM FORCES THE CHURCH ONTO FACEBOOK

Many SubGenii love to interact at arm's length over the Internet. They josh, share, and fight in several different forums. The oldest, alt.slack on Usenet and Google Groups, is a complete free-for-all. It cannot be moderated, and therefore undergoes periods when it fills up with kooks, trolls and the mentally ill, resembling a kind of perpetual flame war. Some SubGenii enjoy that sort of thing. I love it, but then I am a professional kookbasher. Others simply cannot tolerate the high levels of rancor, sarcasm, and personal insults.

I want to keep steering new SubGenii to alt.slack. For the newcomer alt.slack is a gauntlet, an ordeal, a trial by fire. It's not for sissies! On the other hand, we also need a forum that is kook-proofed, where the fighting and flooding doesn't interfere with Slackful communication. That forum was started up by our beloved friend Rev. Tater Gumfries (of Kern's Holler fame), and it is:

You'll notice that to access the ScrubGenius forum, one must sign in to Google Groups AND apply for membership by emailing Tater. Just about anybody will be let in, but if a person proves to be a bad apple they can be cast out of the garden -- unlike alt.slack. ScrubGenius can be a much more Slackful read than alt.slack because Pinks are culled from it. Anyone can sign up, and anyone can be banned. Some of the best SubGenius writers such as Rev. Susie the Floozy ONLY post to ScrubGenius.

Then there is Facebook. After my experience with MySpace -- being bombarded by requests from too many total strangers -- I tried to avoid "social media." Meanwhile, literally dozens of people, many not even SubGeniuses, started up "Church of the SubGenius" pages on Facebook. It finally sunk in that since ours is a face-based religion, Facebook is inevitable, so with the help of co-administrator and longtime SubGenius Foundation officer Rev. Nickie Deathchick, and with the guidance of "Bob" and Dr. Philo Drummond, we have started an "official, authorized" SubGenius Foundation Facebook page:

For folks who want to contribute to Hour of Slack or SubSITE, but who don't do the old Usenet approach, or email me directly, this is a good central gathering place to submit your works. Hopefully, this official Church Facebook page will become a whole "show" unto itself.

CLEVELAND, Ohio, April 5, 2009: The Church of the SubGenius has
announced that the end of the world will take place on Sunday, July 5,
2009. In preparation for the fulfillment of this doomsday prophecy,
the Church is requesting that all of its members participate in a
festival with rock concerts and blasphemous rituals taking place in
upstate New York, during the final weekend before the arrival of the
apocalypse.

The Church of the SubGenius is a religious organization often accused
of being a "parody" of religious cults, including Scientology, the
Raelians, the Unification Church, and racist hate groups such as
Christian Identity. The organization is widely seen as a satire that
mocks organized religion, or as the church describes itself, "a
cynisacreligion."

Since its inception in 1953, Church founder J.R. "Bob" Dobbs has
predicted that a fleet of flying saucers will arrive at the beginning
of July to destroy the worldwide Conspiracy against the Church of the
SubGenius, while all ordained SubGenius ministers will be rescued by
escape vessels piloted by the Alien Sex Goddesses, also known as the
Xists.

The Church is inviting all of its members worldwide to gather together
for the final hours in Sherman, New York from Wednesday, July 1 to
Sunday, July 5, at a clothing-optional outdoor campground called
Brushwood Folklore Center. The first gathering at this compound took
place in 1996, and the event has increased in size and participants
each following year. 1998 was designated the first true "X-Day," and
each successive year has added one to the total. This year's
celebration in 2009 is X-Day 12, or X-Day XII.

The Church has been engaged in a massive recruitment campaign to
increase the numbers of its membership before the arrival of the
Xists. According to Church records, the organization currently has
approximately 100,000 members worldwide. SubGenius recruitment has
been especially dedicated among the ranks of people who refuse to

pranksters, rebels, hackers, pornographers, geeks, and outcasts.

The Church is seeking performers and producers from the adult
entertainment industry in particular, because sexual freedom has been
an important part of Church doctrine from the start. X-Day will be a
celebration of free expression, performance art, rock and roll,
pornography, and adult entertainment; and certain parts of the event
will be restricted to adults only. Only ordained ministers of the
Church of the SubGenius are allowed at the event, but the Church is
accepting memberships at its standard rate of $30 up until the final
hours of July 4.

The Church of the SubGenius has been no stranger to controversy since
its foundation, and the upcoming X-Day celebration promises to be no
different. In the late 1980s, members of the Church were accused of
spreading a virus in Macintosh computers known as the "Peace Virus."
Numerous articles have been written on the Church in such noteworthy
publications as the New York Times, Washington Post, Wired Online,
Boston Globe, U.S. News and World Report; and broadcast reports have
been produced by CNN and NPR. In April 1999, officials of the city of
Cambridge, Massachusetts shut down an official SubGenius Devival
gathering in the belief that the Church was affiliated with the
Trenchcoat Mafia (the organization blamed for the Columbine high
school shootings), though authorities later realized the association
was mistaken. In its January 1, 2000 issue, a Time magazine poll
declared J.R. "Bob" Dobbs the biggest fraud of the 20th century.

The Church received additional media attention in 2006 when one of its
high-ranking members, known in SubGenius circles as Reverend Mary
Magdalen, became involved in a legal battle for custody of her son due
to her membership in the Church. This case has been covered in such
popular online sites as Boing Boing, Fark, and Wikinews (Wikipedia's
news reporting service).

Dear Friends:

Last Wednesday, we sent out a bulk emailing to everybody on our list. It basically advertised the MaybeLogic Academy online course in SubGenius, provided links to lots of new and old videos, and had several reminders of wonderful products now available from our SubGenius stores.

We got lots of Paypal, CafePress store and eBay orders, but no credit card orders. I thought it was just that business was slow, until yesterday when somebody emailed to tell me the credit card shopping cart was broken.

Sure enough, ever since last Thursday, anyone who tried to order using a credit card from my Bulldada Time Control store encountered an error message.

Today, we got that fixed. The credit card shopping cart works fine now. BUT! -- in the process, we discovered to our ABJECT and UTTER HORROR that at least 62 people tried to order! We found the records of the ATTEMPTS, but because of a glitch in the system that started right after the bulk emailing, the only records were of what PRODUCTS people were trying to order. There was no record of WHO had tried nor their payment info. The glitch wasn't letting anyone get that far in the process.

THEREFORE: if you tried to order something last week from Bulldada Time Control Labs store, and got frustrated by error messages, PLEASE TRY AGAIN! We BEG of you! We could really use those 62 orders.

It JUST FIGURES that, of all possible times for this simple computer glitch to happen, it would be RIGHT AFTER a bulk emailing. We must have done something to anger "Bob." Or perhaps we didn't do ENOUGH to anger "Bob."

We await a sign. The best possible sign would be for those who tried to order but couldn't, to now try again!

Earlier I was having a conversation with Ouroboros Rex, who's responsible for playing the Hour of Slack on WEFT in Champaign, IL. He mentioned that he also maintains the station's archive of the shows--many on cassette going back into the early 90s. He was particularly fond of one that featured a radio play called "Zammbuki". Now, since I'm from Dallas and listened to the Hour of Slack since 1987, I remembered that episode fondly, and started reminiscing about some of the other radio plays that Stang has played on the show, including one called The Philip K. Dick Van Dyke Show, and another about UFO conspiracies centered around an investigator called Alabama Neptune.

Next thing you know, I'm searching online--and guess what?

That's right, you can listen to "Zammbuki" online. If you love Japanese monster movies and/or The Firesign Theatre--especially if you love both--you should listen. Very carefully. In good headphones. Enjoyment augmentation optional.

Spice production break-down (figures do not include approx. 19 items of recently mined materials):

Compare these figures with 2007: approx. 281 units.
And 2006: approx. 851 units.

As one can see, there is a marked drop in production. This is attributable to 2 factors:

1. Very poor access to Usenet as a medium of distribution. Other channels are used, but they have not enjoyed the same volume of production (except in 2006).

2. Over 10 years of spice production has made mining very difficult. Dobbs is rarely used as a whole ingredient, with his pipe, if at all, being the tokenistic feature. THAT is now rarely used; the miners were not aware of the faddy nature of this product prior to its use. The cult of the hexagon, however, continues strongly and is starting to enjoy mutated usage.

Despite what appears to be a decline, spice is still produced - and it is hoped that it is quality spice, of a type not much seen from this producer. As such, late 2008 and early 2009 vintage spice is being stockpiled, to be released in more conventional formats sometime mid-2009. However, be warned: this producer is subject to whim and the spice dividend may appear much later or be diluted in interim releases.

BALTIMORE, Maryland, November 8th: The Church of the SubGenius is
coming to Baltimore on Saturday, November 15th. Psychic predictions
for the event have revealed the city will never be the same.

Members of the controversial cult will be gathering for a religious
Devival designed to promote the cause of Slack, Abnormality, and the
Word of Church founder J.R. "Bob" Dobbs. SubGenius Devivals are
spiritual events unlike any other, and audience attendance is expected
to reach capacity crowds.

Planned stage events at the Devival include religious preaching and
rock music by scheduled performers. Attendees at the event include
Reverend Ivan Stang, Rev. Susie the Floozy (of WREK Radio and "Bob's"
Slacktime Funhouse), Reverend Carter LeBlanc, and Priestess Pisces.
Bands and performers will include The Amino Acids, Fat Free, The Motor
Morons and The Versificators. With a special video surprise
presentation as well.

Admission is $8 per person. Doors open for the Devival at 8:00 PM.

The event takes place at Load of Fun, a community-based gallery and
venue for emerging and established artists in a variety of media
located at 120 W. North Avenue, Baltimore MD
